Para las personas que no solicitarán el ajuste de estatus en los Estados Unidos, su solicitud se transferirá al Centro Nacional de Visas (NVC) después de que se apruebe la solicitud. El NVC es responsable de cobrar las tarifas de solicitud de visa y la documentación de respaldo. El NVC notificará al peticionario y a usted (el beneficiario) cuando se reciba la petición de visa y nuevamente cuando esté disponible un número de visa de inmigrante. También le notificarán cuándo sea el momento de presentar las tarifas de procesamiento de la visa de inmigrante (comúnmente conocidas como “facturas de tarifas”) y la documentación de respaldo.

Una vez que una visa esté disponible o su fecha de prioridad sea actual (anterior a la fecha límite que figura en el Boletín de visas mensual), la oficina consular le programará una entrevista. La oficina consular procesará su caso y decidirá si es elegible para una visa de inmigrante. Si se le otorga una visa de inmigrante, el oficial consular le dará un paquete de información. Este paquete se conoce como “Paquete Visa”. No abra este paquete. También deberá pagar una tarifa de inmigrante de USCIS. USCIS usa esta tarifa para procesar su paquete de visa de inmigrante y generar su Tarjeta Verde. Es recomendable pagar la tarifa en línea después de recibir su paquete de visa y antes de partir hacia los Estados Unidos.

Cuando llegue a los Estados Unidos, debe entregar su paquete de Visa al oficial de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza (CBP) de los Estados Unidos en el puerto de entrada. El oficial de CBP lo inspeccionará y determinará si lo admite en los Estados Unidos como residente permanente legal. Después de que el oficial de CBP lo admita, tendrá el estatus de residente permanente legal y podrá vivir y trabajar en los Estados Unidos de forma permanente.
